Understanding Card Conditions

The five standard card condition ratings used across all TCG Mark listings and what each one means.

Updated today

Every trading card listing on TCG Mark includes a condition rating so you know what quality level the seller is offering. The platform uses the same five standard card conditions across listings, imports, trade flows, and checkout tools.

The five card conditions

Condition

Abbreviation

General meaning

Near Mint

NM

Minimal visible wear.

Lightly Played

LP

Light wear from handling or play.

Moderately Played

MP

Noticeable wear.

Heavily Played

HP

Heavy wear that is easy to see.

Damaged

DMG

Major damage or structural issues.

How condition affects shopping

Condition has a direct effect on both price and buyer expectations. In general:

  • Near Mint listings are usually the most expensive

  • Lightly Played and Moderately Played listings can offer better value if appearance is less important

  • Heavily Played and Damaged listings are usually the cheapest, but they come with more obvious wear

When comparing listings for the same card, make sure you compare both price and condition.

Conditions are standardized across the platform

TCG Mark uses the same five condition values across its supported card flows. That consistency makes it easier to browse, import, list, save, and compare cards across games.

Tips for buying by condition

  • For collecting: start with Near Mint or Lightly Played

  • For regular play: Lightly Played or Moderately Played can be a good balance of condition and price

  • For budget pickups: Heavily Played or Damaged can cost less, but inspect the listing details carefully
